She weighed only 1.5 kgs at birth. Her teenaged unwed mother left her at the mission hospital in Uttarkhand. She was alone in her ward - other babies being fussed over by their mothers.
Little Akanksha was just about to have a huge shift of grace in her life. Prabha Kerketta had come to that hospital for some nursing training. She saw little Akanksha (a month old and still unnamed at that point). Her heart went out to the little thin bundle which is all that little girl was.
Prabha and Christochit have been married for almost a decade. Prayers for a child have so far been fruitless. Even the desire to adopt did not seem to be making any progress. Then Prabha met little Akanksha. She called up Christochit and they decided that this was the little girl that God had for them. The next day she left the hospital with a new baby - and made the long trip back to the Nav Jivan Hospital in Jharkhand, where Prabha and Christo serve. Talk about delivering a baby!
Akanksha means 'wish, desire.' God has fulfilled this couple's dream in this little girl. She has rapidly gained weight and is so alert and aware of her world. When we met them last week at Nav Jivan Hospital - it was a wonderful treat to be able to meet the newly expanded family. Akansha is now 3.5 months old - and knows and loves her parents.
A month prior, Christo had been delayed overnight. Akanksha sensed his absence and began crying unconsolably. Prabha called up Christo and he talked to Akanksha on the phone - explaining why he was late and comforting her. She settled down and went to sleep.
What a joy it was to pray with this new set of parents and their special miracle child. What hope this little girl has!
